 man....it's hot...already.

First of May - beautiful weather..felt like March.
End of May - hot, hot, hot...feels like August.

It seems everytime the weather gets warm, it seems too hot to rain, therefore the drought begins. I've always wondered why heat produces such dry conditions, when evaporation should be most extensive, producing clouds & precipitation. The only relief is swimming in the pool.

 Okra

My okra is weird. It's not growing like it should. After 2 months and only 6 inches tall. What's the deal? It's like they're genetically defective. Does okra also need genetic engineering in order to survive like corn? What strange nematode or disease hampers growth in the clemson spineless?

 Gardenin'

Does anyone know about soil moisture dependency? How much is too much? How many heat days does it take to mature most summer crops? Does too much rain ruin gardens that are tilled? Seems my okra is having difficulty after germinating. This has never happened before. A well cared garden needs much attention...hmmm, much like everything in life. Love too. It seemed that Jesus also was a gardener or at least thought about it often, and used parables that were parallel to gardening. Seeds, soil, weeds you name it, Jesus was an agricultural/horticultural expert. Its nice to know that God allows our gardens to grow, and Christ knew this 2000 years ago. Of course, God set humans and animals in the garden of Eden, Christ was arrested at the garden of Gethsemane.

My children are still contemplating large numbers. I told them that any number they can imagine, I can imaginer larger by adding 1. Of course they still try. They like Googols & Googolplexes. I tell them that infinity is NOT really a number, but they use it anyway. They prefer large numbers to extremely small ones. Its a child's perogative to interpret eternity with mathematics. I remember doing this also as a child.
There faith in the abstract world of mathematics is encouraging...and hopefully it will strengthen their understanding of God's vast sovereignty over our daily lives.

My wife has a CD of Coldplay in her car. I was listening to a song that has lyrics that say, "spys in the water..." What's with that? Does Coldplay have any songs that make sense? Nice songs, strange lyrics. Of course, I never understood REM either, but love their music. A few weeks ago, I bought an old Genesis album, "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway", and don't understand their lyrics either, but like the album. Phil Collins was a musical genius when he was 20 years old. I think the album was 1974, but I can't quite remember. Some of the songs could be played on "hearts of space" on the radio and no one would know that the music was rock opera, 32 years old and from a well known pop artist. Anyway its an interesting album and kindof like finding a wire recording of Missisippi John Hurt, where you know the quality is not great, but there is something magical about the sound anyway.

 Yep...Worklife

It's like the question of the "chicken or the egg". I'm sick and therefore my job becomes harder, or my job made me sick, which contributes to everything else. I don't really know, but working while sick is terrible. Anyway. I planted cowpeas again, and then planted squash between my corn and cowpeas. I hope I added the right amount of fertilizer before tilling. My corn is doing well, my okra seems to be doing okay. It will be awhile before I get to harvest it anyway. My cucumbers and pole-beans are growing rapidly, and its only the first of May. Wow!

My neighbor says that we have deer. I'm not sure, but I have seen one. With fencing around my back-yard, they have a difficult time getting in/out. Plus, its very hilly. The only wildlife I see are rabbits, squirrels & birds.....oh yea & neighbors cats & dogs.
